Areas of Specialization
Specialized care for the full range of human experience.
Canyon Lake Therapy offers evidence-based treatment across a wide range of mental health concerns. Every specialty is grounded in the same trauma-informed, compassionate approach — tailored to you.
Depth over breadth.
Specialization means more than listing conditions on a website. It means staying current with the research, training in evidence-based protocols, and understanding the lived experience of the people who carry these challenges. Below you'll find the areas where Canyon Lake Therapy has developed particular depth — and what treatment actually looks like for each.

How we work
Treatment is never one-size-fits-all. These are the primary evidence-based approaches used at Canyon Lake Therapy — selected and combined based on your specific needs, history, and goals.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
The most extensively researched form of psychotherapy. CBT identifies the connections between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors — and teaches practical skills to interrupt unhelpful patterns.
Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT)
Another VA/DoD gold-standard PTSD protocol. CPT targets the 'stuck points' — distorted beliefs about safety, trust, power, esteem, and intimacy that trauma leaves behind.
Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT)
ACT builds psychological flexibility — the ability to have difficult thoughts and feelings without being controlled by them, and to move toward what matters most even when it's hard.
DBT-Informed Skills
Dialectical Behavior Therapy skills — mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotional regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness — adapted for individuals who struggle with intense emotional experiences.
Mindfulness-Based Approaches
Practices drawn from mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) and mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) to build present-moment awareness and reduce reactivity.
Motivational Interviewing (MI)
A collaborative, person-centered approach that helps resolve ambivalence about change — especially useful when part of you wants to change and part of you isn't sure.
